Abstract
Manufacturing and assembly of electronics components face SC disruptions which could be due to geopolitics, demand/supply, structural or institutional reasons. While Intelligent Manufacturing (IM) systems represent resilience-ready systems, the practical pathways through which they achieve viability remain theoretically underexplored and empirically unvalidated in electronics manufacturing. Leaning on SC Viability (SCV) theory and Dynamic Capabilities theory, the paper proposes a conceptual framework to test the relationship between IM-based Digital Technology Adoption (DTA) and SCV through parallel but complementary pathways. SC Visibility and SC Reconfigurability have been selected as mediating pathways contributing to viability of the system. A set of five hypotheses are stated for empirical testing. Each construct is supplied with a set of observable variables for demonstrating a measurement model. The paper discusses managerial implications for data dependent policy and investment decision making. The proposed structure is designed for empirical validation using PLS-SEM with survey data from professionals in the sector. The paper has ample scope to be expanded for further research with a greater number of variables and larger construct.
